Why hide your IP address?
A visible IP lets advertisers profile you across sites, allows region-locking of content, and can expose your approximate physical location to any service you connect to. Hiding it restores a basic level of online privacy.
Method 1: Use a VPN (recommended)
A VPN replaces your IP with one belonging to the VPN server. It's fast, works on every device, and encrypts your traffic at the same time. This is the default choice for most people.
Method 2: Use the Tor browser
Tor routes your traffic through three volunteer relays, hiding your IP even from the exit node. It's the strongest option for anonymity but noticeably slow, and many sites block Tor exit nodes.
Method 3: Use a web or SOCKS proxy
Proxies swap your IP without encrypting traffic. They're fine for casual geo-unblocking but expose your data to the proxy operator. Free proxies are especially risky.
Method 4: Switch to mobile data
Mobile networks assign IPs from a shared carrier pool, which naturally hides your home IP. It doesn't encrypt traffic, though, and your carrier can still see everything.
